2014 Jan 25-27 (Australia Day Wknd) Cooloola (Teewah) Beach
This has been updated;

For the Weekend we are camping on the Cooloola (Teewah) Beach that is accessed from crossing the ferry north Noosa.
As to the actual camp sit this will be determined at the time and partly why I am heading up early so I can secure a good site early.

You will need to obtain a beach driving permit and camping permits Either on line or from the office this side of the ferry - http://parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au/permits/f ... qmmz1fr7_4

Yes I am heading up Wednesday the 22nd and heading home on the Tuesday - cause I can 8-)
Anyone interested in also camping longer please let me know.

I will have the club banner and looking at some form of lighting for finding the camp at night.
If you have a preference of camp sites and have the GPS location please let me know ASAP.

Re: 2014 Jan - Australia Day camping on Teewah Beach..
Sounds good to me
that is how we lose (er save) our electronic files on the corporate drive at my work

and strictly speaking the title:

"2014 Jan - Australia Day camping on Teewah Beach".. should be:

2014 Jan 25-27 (Australia Day Wknd) Teewah Beach camping

but that is being pedantic

and anyway we were also discussing Freshwater Creek as a possible campsite too Wink

I will soon post some information on all the campsites at Cooloola Recreation Area for general discussion Big Grin

there is plenty to see
Double Island Point lighthouse, with a little walk up the rocks and around the track for a great view to the ocean and southern parts of Fraser Island
Leisha track to the sheltered bay of double Island point and of course the beach trip across the coloured sands to Rainbow beach, that is of course at low tide and Mudlo rocks passable

we could make a day tour down to Harry's hut then back to the Gympie Tin Can Bay rd via the forest trails and then back down the King Bore rd to the beach Also Tin Can Bay has the dophins feeding every morning
and fishing fishing fishing

hope to see you there

Cooloola Recreation Area Map

Ok here it is I have used word doc to put all the details in

I was keen on Freshwater, but we are limited in camping types and the group areas tend not to be booked out in peak periods and camper trailers are not allowed in there
Boo Hoo

Teewah beach
looks really good, has great access to the beach going north or south, and King Bore track empties out in the middle of the camping area approx 15km zone so plenty places to claim for our club camping area
I even have a "Rivercity 4wd Club sign I souvenired from the Coorroboree camp area to signal our camp spot
easy access from Noosa/Tewantin via the ferry and can take all our camping vans/trailers
access to rainbow bay is via the inland track and very sandy, slow and bumpy, or low tide dash via the coloured sand beach after Leisha track and the ability to negotiate Mudlo rocks

Povery Point is good also, is very isolated and is located on the back waters of Tin Can bay inlet
allows access to Rainbow Bay and Tin Can Bay and large shopping centre etc.
bit of a track in, but ok I have spent a day there messing around in the shallow waters with my boys, is good for calm boating and fishing

[attachment=1]
[attachment=0]
Tide times for the weekend are

Useful for when we want to do the rainbow beach run from Leisha track

Fri 24 Jan
High 1:37 am - Low 7:52 am - High 1:55 pm - Low 8:15 pm
Sat 25 Jan
High 3:00 am - Low 9:29 am - High 3:12 pm - Low 9:31 pm
Sun 26 Jan
High 4:24 am - Low 10:52 am - High 4:30 pm - Low 10:44 pm
Mon 27 Jan
High 5:34 am - Low 12:00 pm - High 5:41 pm - Low 11:48 pm

We will bring up for discussion next meeting on 13 Nov

Re: 2014 Jan 25-27 (Australia Day Wknd) Teewah Beach camping
Hi

I just grabbed a copy on my work roster for Jan 2014, seems I have from Wed 22nd to Tue 28th free
Thinking of possibly camping out for that period firstly because I can and 2ndly to secure a camp site for the club as they do become crowded very quickly!
So if anyone else is able and willing to camp with us for that period please let me know.

I will have the Club banner so once a camp site has been secured it will be erected in a clear to see location so late comers will be able to find us :o

Let the fun begin

Regardless mate it will be worth it
I have often had the car packed and left home after work, we have ample lighting to make it easy to set up camp in the dark..
I am working on setting up a lighting system to make our camp site locatable at night.

Hello Peter

I have a few questions

What are the tide times

Are you coming up from the noosa end

Will the sandflies/bugs be a problem

I am guessing that it maybe hot

What is/are the costs (permits for driving and camping)

Will the ranger office be open at Tewantin

What are the ferry fees across the river

Johnny

1A - Tide times depends on what day, 22nd when I am going up - Low @ 5am High @12pm, Saturday Low @8am High @2:30pm
But that is from Noosa - not sure on the delay for Cooloola - http://tides.willyweather.com.au/qld/su ... heads.html

2A - Yes I will be coming from the Noosa end, sort of crazy to do it any other way!
3A - Yes the Sand Flies and Horse Flies will be bad - worse when there is little to no wind!
4A - Yes it will be hot - but as I will be there expect rain!
5A - Costs - taken from a post Les did earlier !!

Hi Pete
I have been looking on Google maps for suitable campsites that look promising

and I have the co-ordinance of possible campsites around the King Bore track outlet

-26.119341 153.107928 which is before the track heading north
-26.098196 153.115379 which is past the track heading north
-26.087181 153.119743 which is further north still

they all offer plenty of space behind the dunes for lots of campers and hopefully some shade as well
would be good to check out and see what is suitable on the day when you go

Me thinks it may be beggers can't be choosers, remember it's still school holidays. From memory south of the Kings Bore exit is the rubbish bins and the start of the camping zone.

Yep you are correct it's still school holidays!
But according to the booking system there are still heaps of camping locations available..
and it would not be like the booking system to have that wrong

That is actually part of my idea of heading up early in an attempt to get a good location, will have to ensure I take enough tents to make it look truly occupied.. that is unless I get more of you joining me early 8-)

Hi Peter

Not sure if I can make it at all … but … I have a good sized tent that you may borrow to help with your "occupancy status".

It is the Black Wolf Turbo Plus … the brown one under the club banner ...

It is very easy to put up and pull down again [something I can now actually do all by myself - less hassle than the current setup I use especially when there is a light breeze  ]

Bump!

Less than a week to go!!
It seems that both Darryl and I will be the only ones heading to the beach on Wednesday!
Never mind but would love to know who else we could expect to see over the week, we don't need fixed numbers but would like to know how many we need to cater for camp size wise.

I will be taking my touring tent plus the 3x3 shelter that has 4 sides so it can be a shelter from the insects, just hope the wind is kind to us and no cyclones hit the coast like last year!

have you got enough tents, as I have 2 tent cots and a 3m gazebo too that I would use there if you want me to drop it over

will be up to Teewah on the Friday after lunch I presume after we pack and drive and beat the afternoon traffic

Only two cars camping with me as my mate has wrecked his ankle and is lapping up the attention his wife is giving him, some people will do anything to get attention hey

Tell her it's a cheap way to wind down either for a week or a few days!
you are free to just sit back and relax or spend all day fishing, either way it's what ever you want to do.

I just got one of those fly-screen enclosures for my 3*3 gazebo so we should have some protection from insects as well
getting itchy for it now if you don't mind the pun, and I can smell the beach and water already

Sad news the tides will be big ones for our camp
http://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au/n...d/2142071/

so traversing the coloured sands to Rainbow beach may not be possible, but I am going for a look anyway

Re: 2014 Jan 25-27 (Australia Day Wknd) Cooloola (Teewah) Be
Yep that is worth keeping in mind when choosing a camp site on Wednesday :o

Last year I got washed off the beach by an on coming cyclone and a very insistent officer who told me to get off the beach!
So I reluctantly camped out with Dave and his family at Noosa Wink

I just had a look at the tidal program on my phone, it seems that each day the tide gets higher, Tuesday the tide is just short of 2M in the morning!
Wednesday Morning it's over 2M!!
We can just hope that no cyclone is off the coast - This time!!

Oh well that is just part of the joy when you go camping with me

weather looks good on the BOM charts as far as Saturday,
will wait for further updates but not expecting too much to change with it being mostly cloudy with rain (onya Pete) 30 - 35 max for the days and sleepable low 20's for the night

Just thought Pete Please pick me out a big campsite as I am bringing my camper trailer and 3m Gazebo

just arrived back from a fantastic 4 days on the beach. I understand there was a bit of rain around Brisbane over the last couple of days. We had fine weather only a little wind at the camp but perfect conditions at Double Island Point.

Trip report to come, or maybe you can wait for the next edition of the Bulldust!!!
