Camping trip at Sundowner NP - 15,16th of October.
Camping trip at Sundown NP - 15,16th of October.

Further details TBA

Please let us know if you intend on joining us so we don't leave without you.

Meet up for Trip is at the Last Shell service station on the Right hand side of Aratula on the Cunningham Highway
Meeting time 6:00am Departing at 6:30am

Sundown National Park is situated south of Stanthorpe and can get quite cold at night, it advised to bring cold weather gear but should be warm during the day time.
Fires are permitted but you need to bring your own Firewood as collecting it in the park is not permitted.
The camp site has a Pit toilet but depending on the numbers camping it may be advisable to bring facilities for yourself.
There is a creek next to the camp site so swimming may be possible although it may still be quite cold.

This site has some very easy tracks but also has some that will test your abilities, but the harder areas can be bypassed.

During this trip we may participate in a few recovery exercises with the intention of showing you how we as a club wish you to act in such situations, this is not an accredited training course as none of us are qualified for such activities, if you would like to continue with actual training please let us know as there are several clubs and organisations that can provide this valuable service.

As per usual your Car needs to be insured with a bare minimum of 3rd party Property, be currently Registered and you need to have a Valid Drivers Licence.
We also require you to have a working UHF CB Radio, the car needs to be fitted with Recovery points and you need to carry a snatch strap and rated shackles, other recovery gear including a long handled shovel would be advisable.

Once we depart the Stanthorpe area there is minimal Food or Fuel available.

On the way home we will be passing a few Wineries so it may be possible for a visit and a few samples of the good stuff.

I'm right for Sundown...if it's still on that is.
My wife can't make it, so I'll be going solo.

Guys

I am thinking of possibly heading to the Park on Friday the 14th, possibly with a few guys from work and anyone else that would like to follow.
the idea is to camp both Friday and Saturday nights, this is yet to be confirmed by the guys at work but my preference if to do this.

If you would like to attend on the Friday please let me know.

Permits for accessing the park are not needed, camping can be paid for when you enter the park or it can be done on line.

As for those who wish to travel up on Saturday you would still meet at the same place, same time, Victor has indicated that he should be attending and will be the one waiting to meet you.

No Problem mate, I may also be flying solo as My Wife is working that weekend, looking like it will be a well attended trip so far!

Cool Mick, good to see the Girls also getting in on the fun, like to see more of it!

And to anyone else asking the trip is on, the only thing that I can see changing this would be Bush fires or if a Meteor was to wipe out life on earth :-)

A mate returned from a Stanthorpe camping trip last week-end. Where he was camping the temp hovered around 0 deg for both nights. Don't leave the woollies at home just yet.

Oh thanks for that!

Sounds like we should also look at taking some fire wood!

Hi Mick

I have been toying with that very question,
The original reason for heading out was to spend some time with a few guys from work and show them the park but at this stage it seems that they have pulled out, I should know early this coming week.

If we are travelling ourselves then I may look at heading out a little later with the idea of possibly hitting the park around lunch time.

But if others want to get there earlier then I will be flexible.

ok call me a wus, but sorry I'm going pass on this week-end.
I'm afraid camping and rain (light or heavy) just doesn't do it for me anymore. Sad

Ok will call you a wus - lol

Mate while I too don't really enjoy camping in the rain it's just one of those things that we have to cope with as often predicted rain fails to occur!
The weather is never a done thing and if I were to cancel each trip that had predicted rain we would never go out!

So lets all make sure we are prepared for rain but lets hope it fails to come!

Hi,

It has been ages since I have checked in here... :?

So I only saw the Sundowner trip a couple of days back so alas the weekend is already spoken for (trip to Grafton). I am a little disappointed that my calendar didn't align as this looks like it might be an awesome weekend away.

I do absolutely recommend taking your warm camping gear with... I was up at Janowen Hills only two weekends ago and despite dog froze!!! Then I sprained both my ankles and called it quits on night 2 which was gonna be even colder (apparently they wiped ice of the tables the next morning).

Have a great trip guys - I look forward to hearing all about it when you return.
