Morton island Feb - March 2012
Who wants to camp on Morton for a few days?

Well if you are interested our club is planning on spending a minimum of 3 days on the island possibly in the middle to to late February 2012
Actual Dates have not been decided on yet but will hopefully be set very soon!

Basally we are looking at heading over Friday afternoon then driving up the beach and setting up camp in one of the on the northern camping areas, these areas need to be booked so if you decide to attend we will need to know, also you will need to arrange the required camping and beach permits for yourself but I will post more information on this soon.

Meeting place will be at the Barge departure point, the Friday Barge departs at 1pm so you will need to be there with sufficient time for loading.

The Barge cost is quite high so this is not going to be a cheap trip also there is little in the way of services on the island so you need to carry sufficient Fuel and food for the stay and additional for situations like being stuck for an extra day because of tides or missing the barge.

As per usual your Car needs to be insured with a bare minimum of 3rd party Property, be currently Registered and you need to have a Valid QLD Drivers Licence.
We also require you to have a working UHF CB Radio, the car needs to be fitted with Recovery points and you need to carry a snatch strap and rated shackles, other recovery gear including a long handled shovel would be advisable.
For Sand driving you will also need a reliable Tyre pressure gauge so you can Air Down your tyres for the soft sand, it would also be advised to have an air compressor for pumping them back up when we hit the tar for the return trip as you may need to Air down to such a level that driving on Tar will not be possible at the lowered pressures.

The barge has two air hoses on board so plenty of time to air up not the 2 hr trip back.

Re: Morton island Feb - March 2012
Well that is interesting to know.

Guess I will find out later this month as I have just booked the barge for just after Christmas and returning early in the new year,
This is not a club trip as I am going with friends who invited me along so it would be wrong to invite others, plus bookings are quite limited, I think there is a good chance I booked one of the last camping spots!

Seems this time of the year is quite busy!!

Will have more information when I return
