Christmas in November - Levuka 12,13th November
The club has decided to have an early Christmas and is holding it at the Levuka.

Details are still being finalised but we are currently thinking of a Group camp oven cook up with possibly members bringing salads and items for dinner and Desert.
I phoned Levuka today and spoke to Robert the owner, we now have the camp kitchen area booked, this area provides a dry spot for us to party but it would be a good idea to bring chairs and possibly a few tables as the ones provided may not be suitable.
The Kitchen area has a fire place where we should be able to cook up a dish or two so the idea of several camp oven meals sounds like a good plan to me.

Please if you have any ideas on this or anything else to add don't stay quiet Big Grin

Clearly we need to have some idea of how many are attending so numbers are important, we also need maybe communicate what we intend on bringing so we don't end up with 20 different versions of Potato Salad

At the Meeting it did not occur to me that this will be the 2nd time our club actually celebrates Christmas at Levuka!
Attached is a couple photo's from 2007 when we last partied for Christmas.

Re: Christmas in November - Levuka 12,13th November
Hi

Can people start letting me know if they are attending and if so what food they will be bringing...
Placing this up on the forum would be the best way of letting people know what not to bring...

We have a Santa so gifts is the next thing on the agenda,
Keep it simple and keep it low budget, something useful like sweets, gadgets like torches also go over well for the guys, woman are harder but I am sure the Girls will have a better idea of what they would like, or keep the gifts no gender based - either way don't go overboard and don't forget the kids!

Food wise currently I have:

RC4WD Club - small gift bags for the kids, also may look at some soft drinks.
airvicelec - Victor : Variety of Deserts - he tells me there will be enough for all.
TroopiePeter - TBA

I thought I had replied but don't see it in the thread...

So this one is more of a test. BTW will try to work this into my schedule as I camping gear is nearly all squared away again so must be time to have it pulled back out and scattered all over the place again!!!

You know you want to so just make the time :-)
Camping gear needs to be constantly scattered around the place and in constant use or it becomes lonely and gets embarrassed to come out and play :-)
There is/was another thread for this weekend but this is now the only one that counts!

If you are attending please let me know, also if you wish to add a dish let us now what it is,
the club may throw on a bit of food but this is still to be organised.

Yeah - looks like the weekend is free (well except for the fact I should be at home doing domestic stuff - but stuff that ... it can wait!!!). Wink

Might need more specifics on Levuka (I've not been there before)...

I would like to bring a plate but will get back to you on that once I've consulted the pantry.

Cheers,

Club will be providing Bacon and Eggs for Breakfast for Sunday Morning

Levuka 4WD Park is located south of Woodenbong and not too far from Urbenville.
The Park has toilets and showers that are located not too far from the camp grounds, it also has an under cover area that we have booked for our party.

Over the many years our club has frequented the park as it provides both good camping facilities and a wide range of driving, many of the tracks move from hard to holly shit when the weather becomes wet, but then some tracks are difficult but fun regardless of the weather, I would be extending the truth to say there are an abundant of easy tracks but many will get you having fun without endangering your 4x4.

Leaches and ticks are a fact of farm life in the area but are normally not an issue just be aware they exist.

For more information visit the parks web site.

Hi,

Yep know the problem work, especially new work must come first!
As for what to bring, given you have young children you may be bringing it would be good if you cater for there needs as I know sometimes it can be hard to please, but in saying this there possibly will be other kids so maybe bring something you can share.

I was also considering cooking up a camp oven stew, so possibly if members could bring sufficient food to feed themselves like meat and veggies that we could throw in and cook up, maybe add some spices or something like that..
Potatoes, Pumpkin, onions and things like that go down well and will not cost the earth....
Also experienced camp oven cooks would be good - if anyone out there has skills in this area and want to help please let me know!

Re: Christmas in November - Levuka 12,13th November
Large enough oven, well I guess that depends on how many people with to partake in the thing,
Possibly if there are more than a few people interested then maybe we could split the meal up into several of them - guess that's the next question... who has a camp oven they can bring?

Adrian,
No Problems mate, must admit the cost of the park is high and I did consider possibly changing it to something a little closer with a lower cost but hey that's life I guess, these days jut filling the rig with Diesel is costing over $200 so no matter what we seem to do it's costing way too much for our sport!
See you at an outing soon.

Oh on the note of outings I have asked Victor to plan a trip for sometime early next year that will take us back to an area we did early this year as most of you were not members, it's one beautiful part of NSW with a very nice camping ground that Narelle and I had to ourselves a few weekends back, more on that at the next meeting or so.

Re: Christmas in November - Levuka 12,13th November
I have two camp ovens, if I come i'll bring them ones about 14-16 inches the others about 10-12inches. I forgot their proper sizes.

so far works letting me have the time off.. but we've had 4 guys quit so i'm being thrown in the deep-end I think Smile

Sometimes it's just best to serve it out for the kids and don't worry about sharing - works out easier :-)
There will be some other food on tables so I am sure there will be enough to go around.

Yes it was a good weekend, hope the boys also enjoyed it good to see more young kids in the club.

This time of year has always been a pain for me Lightening wise seems each December we get a lightening strike that takes out our internet phone or something else I guess the storm is just trying to share the love around 8-)
